Fimm erindi um fiskeldi
Gestafyrirlesari Sjávarútvegsskóla Háskóla Sameinuðu þjóðanna að þessu sinni er professor Barry Costa-Piers frá University of New England í Portland í Main í Bandaríkjunum. Hann hefur áratuga reynslu í þróun fiskeldis í þróunarlöndum og hefur unnið í löndum í suðurhluta Afríku og í ýmsum Asíulöndum ásamt því að skrifa fjölda greina um efnið. Costa-Piers mun flytja fimm erindi frá mánudegi 23. janúar til miðvikudags 25. janúar og hefst fyrsta erindið kl. 10:00 á mánudagsmorgun. Hin erindin hefjast kl. 09:00 og kl. 10:30 á þriðjudags- og miðvikudagsmorgun.
Erindin verða flutt í fyrirlestrarsal á 1. hæð að Skúlagötu 4, Sjávarútvegshúsinu og verða þau flutt á ensku og eru efni þeirra eftirfarandi:
- Aquaculture Extension Methods for Low Income Farmers
A review of participatory science and aquaculture extension methods for low income farmers in economically developing countries with descriptions from the speakers’ experiences developing village based aquaculture extension in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Pacific, and rural Asia.
2-3. Biology & Culture of the Tilapias (2 lectures)
(1) A global review from the speakers’ experiences in Asia, Africa and the Americas of the biodiversity, invasive species aspects, and aquaculture research and development progress and priorities for the future, and value chain developments for the tilapias.
(2) A lecture focused on the research and development of hatchery and nursery systems for tilapias.
- Culture-Based Aquaculture
A review of culture-based aquaculture and connections to fisheries enhancement in general with examples from inland and coastal systems.
- Integrated Pond Aquaculture Systems
A global review from the speakers’ experiences of integrated freshwater pond systems in Africa and Asia, including the speaker’s backyard tank systems in the USA.
